It’s hard to distinguish between which pope did what especially since they all keep so many of the same names, but this book does what it’s supposed to do, which is give an overview of the entire papacy which in turn gives you some insight on European and Italian history.
If this book doesn’t make you want to read more about 1000 topics in European history then you might be brain dead.
Only problem with the book is that he’s often positive about people who are responsible for terrible evils. The book is written as if popes are his favorite sports team and although he doesn’t like everything they do he insists on rooting for them.
Sometimes that left a bad taste in my mouth.
